Registered Dietitian, psychology major and fitness enthusiast..

The gym has always been my second home, as I grew to understand that it had given me confidence and both mental and physical strength like I had never had before. I was a very shy girl growing up, as I lacked a sense of self confidence and was always so afraid of not meeting other peoples (or my own) expectations. I also dealt with a number of medical issues, some of which have gone away, but some I still deal with today. Through all of that, the gym was always my place to feel as if I was 'good enough' as my physical strength often surprised me and my confidence exploded both inside and outside the gym. With that, I became a personal trainer and thrived off helping others reach their own goals and find their own confidence.

With exercise comes the importance of nutrition and after finishing my degree in psychology, I came to realize that my passion for all things food and nourishing your body could be my future career. After 5 more years of school, for a total of 9 years of study, I have educated myself both inside and outside of school to help motivate and guide them to their best selves through understanding their emotional relationship with food and how to feel their best through their diet.

Despite my long term struggle with IBS and now continuing with a recent diagnosis with colitis (IBD), I truly feel that my purpose is to use my personal experiences and knowledge to help others find their balance and lead the most energetic and happy lives they can.

Chelsea's Nutrition Philosophy

Food is meant to be nourishing but it is also meant to be enjoyed. I believe that natural is always best, as that is the way nature intended it to be consumed, but that a balance of fun and enjoyable foods has to be part of the mix.

Balance is about enjoying the the foods in our diet, rather than focusing on restrictions or 'bad foods' we feel we need to take away. I find that with the widespread dieting mentality, a large majority of people are stuck focusing on the foods they believe they shouldn't have and that gives food a lot of power and negative energy associated with it. This negative relationship with food is one thing I like to tackle during consults because food should be something positive and something to embrace without fears or guilt.

Instead of focusing on numbers, focus on how food makes you feel. Listening to your body and reflecting on the good energy, enjoyment and overall taste and feel of the food is how we will find our sense of well being and happiness, from the inside out.
